By that I mean, it seems to me that youd waste more money in wages running around the map training somewhere besides the training fields. It is somewhat time intensive compared to battles on the field but very worth it if u put the time in, especially considering that troops require upkeep/ wages, so for the time it takes in game it's pretty efficient. I recommend getting training skill regardless, but theyd stack together pretty well. But back to the point of the training fields, its bot necessary imo but certainly it IS useful.
I literally train whole armies to max level by walking on the map while i do other stuff. And the skill uniquely stacks, meaning its useful to have it on both yourself AND any companions you choose, the effect will multiply.
I find that early to mid gane, it is THE best and most useful skill, in my experience, by far. As fat as training recruits against bandits goes, Ill leave it to Sun Tzu 'To lead untrained men into battle is to throw them away.' And Lagn left out a much more efficient tool for training: Putting points in the trainer skill. I completely disagree with Lagnetolasica.
